Surface

When can a disinfected surface be used again?

After the routine disinfecting cleaning, a surface can be used again as soon as it is visibly dry.

Since microorganisms are inactivated exponentially, most microorganisms are killed at the beginning of the application time. Until the end of the exposure time microorganisms are continuously killed, even if the surface is already dry.
In the following cases, surfaces should not be used again before the exposure time is completed:

  • Disinfections in accordance with § 18 IfSG (Federal Law on the Prevention of Infectious Diseases, Germany)
  • Possibility of transmission of microorganisms in wound and patients (e.g. burn patients)
  • Disinfections with subsequent water rinse (e.g. kitchen area, bath tubs)

(See foreword of the current VAH list)
