How are endoscopes reprocessed correctly?

Immediately after the patient examination the light source should be cleaned coarsely. To this end, wipe the endoscope’s tubular probe with a disposable and lint-free wipe. All accessible channels have to be rinsed thoroughly with a cleaning solution (e.g. 0.5 – 1.0 % Bodedex® forte) several times. Subsequently, a leak test has to be carried out in accordance with the manufacturer’s instructions. Afterwards, the brush cleaning with a product that does not possess any coagulating fixing properties (e.g. 0.5 – 1.0 % Bodedex® forte) takes place. The subsequent short rinse phase is followed by the automated reprocessing or a manual disinfection with the respective DGHM/VAH-listed products being approved for flexible endoscopes.

The final rinse phase has to be executed with fresh, biologically safe water – in some cases the RKI requires sterile water. After drying, the endoscope can be stored or used for the next patient.
