RKI recommendation for infectious diseases and application areas
The Robert Koch-Institute (RKI) is the central federal institution responsible for disease control and prevention. Thus, it is also the central federal institution for applied and measure-oriented biomedical research. The main tasks of the RKI comprise identification, prevention and control of diseases, in particular infectious diseases. In this conjunction, the tasks of the RKI include the legal obligation to compile scientific findings as basis for political decisions concerning health issues.
RKI-Guidebook Infectious Diseases – Factsheet
for Doctors
By publishing the factsheets for doctors, the RKI provides practically
important information about vital infectious diseases on the basis of
the Federal Law on the Prevention of Infectious Diseases in Humans (IfSG).
The bulletins are continuously updated as required and also contain recommendations
on necessary hygiene measures depending on the respective pathogens.
At present, factsheets on approx. 50 different infectious agents are
available.

RKI recommendations for hygiene in different application areas
According to the Federal Law on the Prevention of Infectious Diseases in
Humans (IfSG), the RKI has the task to “develop concepts for the
prophylaxis of communicable diseases as well as for the early identification
and prevention of the widespread of infections”. One of the most
important measures in this context is the notification of the Committee
for Hospital Hygiene and Infection Prevention at the RKI, which concretizes
the hygienic requirements for various application areas. The recommendations
of the Committee for Hospital Hygiene are officially published in the “Bundesgesundheitsblatt
- Gesundheitsforschung – Gesundheitsschutz”.
These recommendations are available in German only
