Staff protection: Bomix® plus for the cleaning instrument disinfection
BODE Chemie, Hamburg, now offers a cleaning disinfectant without aldehydes – Bomix® plus – that ensures staff protection in the wet disposal and manual processing of instruments. In addition, the new product convinces with excellent cleaning results and high material compatibility, for example with flexible endoscopes.
Contaminated instruments and endoscopes put healthcare personnel at risk and should be introduced to the cleaning process as fast as possible. The actual reprocessing already begins with the instrument disposal in the operating theatre. Wet disposal should be preferred in case the way to the outsourced central sterilisation department is long, a manual reprocessing is carried out subsequently, or in case the instruments are re-sorted and there is a risk of injury.
Taking staff protection into account, the Instrument Preparation Working Group recommends a combined disinfection and cleaning solution for wet disposal. Jointly with the Robert Koch-Institute (RKI), experts agree that products with a protein-fixing effect should not be used, as is the case with e.g. products containing aldehyde and peracetic acid.
With the new Bomix® plus BODE Chemie, Hamburg, launched a cleaning disinfectant that completely meets these requirements and, in addition, provides an excellent material compatibility. The product which is based on quaternary ammonium compounds (QAC) can even be used with very sensitive medical devices made up of latex, silicone, polyacrylate and polycarbonate as well as with flexible endoscopes. Another plus: Even with heavy protein contamination, e.g. through blood, Bomix® plus achieves excellent cleaning results.
The new product reliably protects staff against bacteria, fungi and, with an exposure time of more than 5 minutes, also against enveloped viruses, e.g. HBV, HIV and HCV.
The pleasant smell has a share in the anticipated high acceptance. Additional advantage: The special formulation, e.g. without aldehydes and chlorides, makes Bomix® plus compatible with all other products and active substances respectively – irrespective of whether the instruments are reprocessed manually or automatically afterwards.
According to the recommendations of the Robert Koch-Institute (RKI) medicinal products that are not sterilised subsequently, e.g. flexible endoscopes, have to be reprocessed with an virucidal disinfectant after cleaning. Korsolex® extra and Korsolex® basic – the aldehyde-based disinfectants for manually reprocessing heat-sensitive and -resistant instruments – are suitable for this, for example.
However, in case the endoscopes are reprocessed automatically, the well-proven system consisting of Korsolex®-Endo-Cleaner and
-Disinfectant can be used subsequently.
