Semmelweis-Research Prize 2008
Application deadline is September 30, 2007
In order to record innovative achievements in applied infection prevention, the German Association of Hospital Hygiene (DGKH) and BODE Chemie jointly award the biannual Ignaz-Philipp-Semmelweis-Research Prize. Applications for this international prize endowed with 15,000 EUR are accepted until September 30, 2007.
The Ignaz-Philipp-Semmelweis-Research Prize awards outstanding and innovative achievements in the areas of hand hygiene, hand disinfection, body hygiene, asepsis, and antisepsis. The joint global award of the German Association of Hospital Hygiene (DGKH) and BODE Chemie was brought into being ten years ago.
The application deadline for the coming presentation of the Semmelweis-Research Prize is September 30, 2007. Submissions in German or English languages must have been published or accepted for printing and evaluated according to a review procedure. This call for papers for the last time also accepts defended dissertations. The biannual scientific award, which carries 15,000 EUR in prize money, is awarded globally.
A seven-person jury consisting of internationally accepted experts on infection prevention and members of the DGKH and BODE Chemie select the laureates. The grant of the award as well as the public presentation of the awarded papers will take place at the 9th International Congress of the DGKH in April 2008.
In 2006, the Semmelweis-Research Prize was awarded to two German scientists in equal shares: Dr. Birgit Zühlsdorf, Technical Hygiene department at the Charité University Hospital Berlin, for her paper „Determination of the cleaning performance of processes with various cleaning agents in cleaning and disinfection devices for flexible endoscopes”, and Dr. Nora Bieber from the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt University Greifswald for her paper „ Risk assessment of alcohol absorption after hygienic and surgical hand antisepsis with alcohol-based preparations”.
The complete call for paper documents and modalities for the Semmelweis-Research Prize 2008 are available in German and English, and can be accessed at www.bode-chemie.de and www.bode-chemie.com respectively as well as on the website of the DGKH (www.dgkh.de).
