Innovation: Cutasept® med F reduces exposure time by 75 percent
Cutasept® med F only needs a quarter of the time usually required for the antisepsis of skin rich in sebaceous glands. The preparation is the first skin antiseptic to be approved by the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (Bundesinstitut für Arzneimittel und Medizinprodukte – BfArM) and certified by the Association for Applied Hygiene (Verbund für Angewandte Hygiene e.V. – VAH) with an exposure time of 2.5 minutes.
BODE has a tradition in innovation: In 1965, it developed Sterillium®, the first marketable alcohol-based hand disinfectant, together with the University Medical Centre Hamburg-Eppendorf. In 2004, studies allowed a shortened application time of 1.5 minutes for Sterillium® used for surgical hand antisepsis.
Now it is again a product from BODE that achieves a considerable reduction of the exposure time while maintaining the same good efficacy. Cutasept® med F only requires a quarter of the time usually needed for the antisepsis of skin rich in sebaceous glands: instead of 10 minutes the colourless skin antiseptic from BODE reaches the maximum possible efficacy within 2.5 minutes. A clear advantage also for health personnel: The saving of time allows for work routines that are more efficient.
The Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices (Bundesinstitut für Arzneimittel und Medizinprodukte – BfArM) already approved Cutasept® med F with an exposure time of 2.5 minutes on skin rich in sebaceous glands. Also the Association for Applied Hygiene (Verbund für Angewandte Hygiene e.V. – VAH) reacted on the new state-of-science for the antisepsis of skin rich in sebaceous glands. Since the beginning of this year, the VAH certifies exposure times that are shorter than the previously defined 10 minutes. The efficacy of the preparations has to be proven in comparison to the reference preparation (propan-2-ol, 70 vol. %) with a 10-minute exposure time. Cutasept® med F is the first skin antiseptic that has been approved by the BfArM and has been included into the list of disinfectants of the VAH with an exposure time of 2.5 minutes. With this, BODE once more sets standards with regard to validated, actually required exposure times for disinfection procedures.
The introduction of a coloured version for the preoperative skin antisepsis and marking of the operation area is being prepared.
